After making a poor first impression in India since its launch in January, the Samsung Z1 seems to be doing reasonably well. Samsung India Electronics on Tuesday announced that it has sold a 'record' 1 million units of the Tizen-powered smartphone in the country. The company added it managed to achieve this milestone in less than six months since the launch. Samsung Z1 is the company's first smartphone to run on its Tizen operating system. The company has previously used the operating system on its Gear smartwatches, and televisions. Samsung had first unveiled a Tizen-based smartphone in June, the Samsung Z, but never did release it in its launch market in Russia - saying it was indefinitely postponed. Some of the advantages Samsung Z1 gets using the lightweight Tizen OS is a fast boot time, quick access to apps, and fast browser performance using compression. The big news from Samsung’s booth at the current Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is that the Korean brand’s upcoming flagship UHD TVs aren’t just UHD TVs any more. Now they’re Super UHD TVs – or SUHD TVs for short. This (sadly) doesn’t mean that these JS9 models come adorned in a cape and red underpants, though. Rather the Super part of the name indicates that they’re equipped with two major new technologies for Samsung: high dynamic range (HDR) playback, and Quantum Dot colour reproduction. The HDR feature means that the JS9 series – which will be available in 65, 78 and 88-inch versions – are bright enough and powerful enough where colour processing is concerned to handle sources mastered to deliver a much wider colour space than you get with the usual industry video standards.
