Smartphone Tech: Towards what are we moving ?
" This year till now we have seen most radical advancements in the smartphone technology, be it wide acceptance of dual camera or extra tall aspect ratios on smartphone displays. From bezel less design to Modularity in phones, it will be interesting to see what comes next in this year. Here are few of tech which we might see in upcoming smartphones this year."
5 Smartphone tech most likely to be used on phones this year
1. Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality
Augmented reality (AR) and Virtual reality (VR) are becoming integral components of modern smartphones, and experts consider mobile devices as the major driving carrier in acceptance of these technologies. The first smartphone to come equipped with Google's Tango Platform is Asus Zenfone AR.
Announced early in 2014 and developed by Google's Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) team, Project Tango is Google's attempt to get mobile phones and tablets to see the way we see. This means granting the device full spatial awareness, or the ability to understand your environment and your relation to it. The essential aim is to get your smartphone to understand the world around it, enabling it to provide augmented reality experiences.
More recently, the likes of Intel and Qualcomm have announced reference Project Tango devices for developers to work on, which has prompted a great deal of excitement among the development community.
2. Fingerprint Scanners Under Display
This year Qualcomm showcased the tech in colaboration with Vivo to enable fingerprint scanners scan through display panel of smartphone, and its in rumors that iPhone 8 is likely to sport this technology.

With increasing aspect ratios and shedding of bezels and radical designs like infinity edge display on Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 it is becoming necessity to in-cooperate fingerprint scanners under display specially with those smartphones which had fingerprint scanner at their front chins.
3. Complete Bezel Less Design
Just Display over the front panel and nothing else, smartphone industry is moving in this direction. Samsung, Lg, Xiaomi launched their version of almost bezel less displays on smartphones, now it's turn of apple to show their cards. iPhone is likely to arrive with the highest screen to body ratio on any smartphones. Introducing bezel less displays on smartphones enables manufacturers to have large displays on smaller footprints and this year is going to witness some of the most radical designs on the smartphones era.
4. Flexible Displays
It may soon be the case where smartphones are able provide a large screen to watch and play your favorite movies and games while maintaining a pocketable size. Screens can be folded and unfolded, all thanks to Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) technology. This paper-thin screen can even project future-features-smart-phones/ from both sides of the screen, so you can show pictures or videos to your friend on one side while using the other as a control. With such physical flexibility for smartphones, some companies even have plans on make wearable smartphones for the masses.
5. True Wireless Charging Capabilities
Wireless charging is a nebulous term. Despite the implication of over-the-air energy transfer between two or more devices, it’s commonly used to describe technologies that require physical contact to initiate power transfer. Qi, a common standard in smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, is one such example. PMA, a similar but incompatible specification, is another. But the days of true wireless charging — of router-like devices that beam electricity like a modern-day Tesla coil — are coming.
One company at the forefront is Energous. The company’s WattUp technology enables wireless charging in various forms — in a small, short-throw charging dock similar to Qi and PMA products on the market today; in a medium-distance “desktop” option intended for feet-long power transfer; and in a long-throw base station that beams energy from up to 15 feet in any direction.
